A Hero’s Home and Operation Homefront to Donate Mortgage-Free Home to a Veteran Family in Memphis

MEMPHIS, TN — A Hero’s Home, Inc., a charitable nonprofit founded by real estate investors in the U.S., and Operation Homefront, a national nonprofit serving America’s military families, today announced they will award a mortgage-free home to a veteran family in Memphis, Tenn., and prepare them to become successful homeowners. The home will be fully renovated by REI Nation, one of the largest turnkey real estate companies in the U.S.

A Hero’s Home partnered with REI Nation to raise funds and completely renovate the three bedroom, two-bathroom home in Memphis. This is the first home that A Hero’s Home has donated to Operation Homefront and its Permanent Homes for Veterans (PHV) program, which will provide the recipient with the foundation they need to become strong, stable and secure in a community they have worked so hard to protect. In addition to awarding mortgage-free homes, the program provides financial counseling to assist in homeownership success.

Donating this house has been the founding purpose behind a A Hero’s Home, a nonprofit founded in 2018 to raise money to purchase homes, provide full renovations and maintain the homes while new owners are being selected.

“It’s so gratifying to be able to award this home to a deserving veteran,” said Jay Hinrichs, founding member of A Hero’s Home. “Giving the gift of a completely renovated home is just one small way we can say thank you to our military heroes and their families for the sacrifices they’ve made for our country. We’re delighted to thank REI Nation for their renovation of the property and to partner with Operation Homefront, which is changing lives daily with their mission.”

The PHV program offers military families the foundation for long-term stability and resiliency. The home is featured on the Operation Homefront website with the opportunity for eligible veterans to apply to receive the home.

“We are absolutely thrilled A Hero’s Home has joined us to make the dream of homeownership come true for one of our amazing military families,” said Brig. Gen. (ret.) John I. Pray Jr., president and CEO of Operation Homefront. “A life-changing gift that highlights REI Nation’s unwavering commitment to helping us help our military families in their time of need for all they have done for all of us in our nation’s time of need.”

Families in the PHV program work directly with Operation Homefront caseworkers and financial counselors to build savings, reduce debt, and learn the skills to manage their home. Upon graduation from the program, the family will be deeded the home, mortgage-free.

More than 700 military families have entered into the program and since 2012, Operation Homefront has deeded over 650 homes to military families, at a value of over $98 million in home equity.
